Feeling at Home in My Own Body

Have you ever noticed that your body reacts differently when you're in an unfamiliar place or new environment?

Participating in a retreat as a facilitator was both a learning experience and a challenge.

When I was teaching Focusing, I felt relatively comfortable—having a plan for what I wanted to share helped me find my words. I usually feel some nervousness when facilitating or speaking in front of an audience, whether in my native language or in English. Of course, the level of nervousness can increase when using English.

But during casual conversations at breaks or while sharing a room, I noticed I was holding more tension than I had realized.

During the retreat, I tried to take care of myself: taking a short walk by the ocean and allowing myself a few moments of rest. But even then, I think some tension stayed with me just below the surface.

🌿 Coming Back to Myself

The morning I returned home, I felt exhausted and had a headache. I canceled some plans and gave myself permission to slow down.

Gradually, I began to feel like I was back in my own body. One clear sign was that my body started responding naturally again.

During the retreat, I felt stuck inside—my body just didn’t move the way it usually does. Once I was home, everything began to flow again.

It reminded me how our bodies can hold tension we’re not always aware of.

🌿 Mind-Body Connection

Even when we think we’re fine, we might still be trying to adjust or hold ourselves together in new situations.

Coming home, being in a place where I could truly relax, I felt my body exhale: “It’s okay now.”

It was a powerful reminder that our minds and bodies are deeply connected.

Have you ever felt a tightness in your shoulders, an unsettled stomach, or a headache after being in a new place or a different environment?

Maybe your body was trying to tell you it had been carrying tension too.

It’s okay to feel that way.

And it’s okay to simply notice that feeling and let yourself be.

May you find moments of gentle acceptance for every part of yourself- tense or relaxed, tired or calm.

Thank you for reading.

I’m grateful for everyone’s presence and for the chance to share this space with all of you.
